NAMCYA - CDO

The National Music Competition for Young Artists (Philippines) recently held the regional finals for Mindanao in Cagayan de Oro City (CDO).

As a member of the jury, what surprised me was the very high-level of artistic performance of the 4 groups, especially the University of Mindanao Choir, with their almost "MADZ" interpretation of Dr. Stroope's Riveder le Stelle.

The performance was not only impressive, but also heartfelt.

In the afternoon, we held a workshop for the groups, and it became a very nice discourse for clinicians, conductors, and singers alike.

A brief trip to the Oplo beach between Misamis and Cagayan cities gave me a respite, albeit a moonlit night in the sea.

Japan, here I come!

Birthday with friends

Tonight, we had a very special dinner (post-birthday celebration) at the Hongkong Mastercook restaurant.

My dear friends Jonathan Velasco, Robert Delgado, Mark Carpio, Pearl Reyes, Vytautas Miskinis were there, as well as new friends, Dolf and Frau Rabus, Nelson Kwei and Aida Swenson.

We visited the wet market beside the restaurant, and chose our dinner ingredients from among the big lobsters, crabs, tiger prawns, giant squid, and tuna belly.

What came out of the Mastercook kitchen were grilled dishes of very fresh-tasting sumptuous seafood which delighted everybody at the table.

This was followed by a smorgasbord of tropical fruits: coconut (in their shells!), watermelon, papaya, pineapple, very much enjoyed by our colleagues from Europe.  Of course, San Miguel was there to wash down the food in our throats.

Am still waiting for Vytautas to send me the pictures, taken from his very high tech professional camera!
